The collection consists primarily of screenplays, scripts, and unfinished work written by Calder Willingham. The most well-documented work in the collection is Rambling Rose, for which there are several drafts of screenplays, documents, and clippings. Screenplays for Little Big Man are also included, as well as scripts and treatments for projects that apparently never materialized. The collection also includes essays Willingham wrote on a number of topics, such as writing, philosophy, religion, and his upbringing. There is a substantial amount of correspondence including letters between Willingham and fellow authors Herman Wouk and James T. Farrell. Correspondence begun while Willingham was in college at the University of Virginia includes two love interests as well as David T. Bazelon, who would become a noted social critic. Some interviews and reviews of his work also form part of the collection.
